Pretoria, 23 October 2026. Hyundai Automotive South Africa is stepping up its presence in the commercial vehicle market with the launch of the new Hyundai Mighty GT11, a heavy-commercial truck designed to meet the demands of businesses operating in distribution, logistics and freight.
Hyundai is positioning the Mighty GT11 around total cost of ownership: with fuel efficiency, residual values and parts availability central to its proposition. The truck has been engineered to reduce some of the key costs associated with commercial vehicle ownership, while improving uptime through and our national service network.
Speaking at today’s launch held at the Zwartkops Racing Track in Centurion, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, Stanley Anderson said the approach is aimed at giving operators greater predictability in running and maintenance costs, an increasingly important consideration in the transport sector.
“We are optimistic about the potential of the commercial vehicle market in South Africa and the Hyundai Mighty GT11 brings our strong heritage of reliability, innovation and quality into a segment where customers need vehicles they can depend on every day. We want to build a meaningful presence and earn the trust and confidence of commercial operators.”
The Hyundai Mighty GT11 is powered by a 3,760cc Cummins four-cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 125kW and 600Nm. Peak torque is available between 1,300r/min and 1,700r/min, giving the truck strong low-speed pulling capability. Power is delivered through a ZF six-speed automated manual transmission, combining automated gear changes with the operating efficiency expected of a modern commercial vehicle.
The truck delivers substantial working capacity, offering a powerful 6-ton payload capability backed by an 11,000 kg Gross Vehicle Mass. This gives operators a generous 7,780 kg allowance for body and payload, alongside a 15,500 kg Gross Combination Mass. Its heavy-duty foundation incorporates a 7,600 kg full-floating rear axle and multi-leaf rear suspension, complemented by an advanced dual-circuit full air brake system, ABS, and a spring-operated parking brake. Completing the package, the three-seat cab features air conditioning alongside dual front airbags, ensuring driver comfort and safety over long duty cycles.
For commercial operators, however, the relationship with the manufacturer does not end when the truck leaves the showroom.
“Downtime has a direct impact on a business, which is why aftersales support is a critical part of our overall commercial vehicle strategy,” said Johan Nel, Sales Director at Hyundai Automotive South Africa. “The GT11 truck is backed by Hyundai’s warranty protection, trained technicians and genuine parts. We want operators to have confidence in the truck as well as the support available throughout its working life.”
For Hyundai, the GT11 is more than a new product introduction. It marks a strategic step into a segment where uptime, operating economics and aftersales support are central to fleet decisions.
